Street wardens — for a safer Bicester
Cllr. Les Sibley on patrol with the Bicester Street Wardens.I have been closely involved in the process of getting funds for Bicester's new street wardens. They are key personnel in the fight against petty crime and vandalism. It is the role of street wardens to be visible while patrolling our streets where they act as the community’s eyes and ears.

New cemetary
New cemetaryThe Bicester town council are looking to acquire land for a new cemetery as the current site is almost full to capacity. It is imperative that further land is made available for this purpose ideally situated within the town’s boundaries.

But before such a plan could be implemented it would be advisable that a public debate takes place to gain the views of the townspeople on such a sensitive issue.

Bus passes for pensioners
Bus PassesI have been campaigning for the new National concessionary bus pass scheme to operate from 9.00 am  - as was the case under our local bus scheme. A new restriction has been introduced which means the new passes cannot be used before 9.30. I believe the new start time will cause inconvenience to people who genuinely need to travel to the shops or to appointments early – especially pensioners. Please let me know your views if you are affected by this time change.

Stop the local Post Office from closing down
Post office Cllr. Les Sibley has been instrumental in obtaining thousands of signatures in a bid to stop the local Villiers Road Post Office from closing. Although the campaign itself was successful in highlighting the local community’s team effort and commitment to the non closure, the Villiers Road Post Office finally closed its doors. Undaunted the campaigners are determined to continue the fight to keep Bicester’s main Post Office open.

Bicester Town Centre Redevelopment
Bicester town redevelopmentThe decision by Sainsbury’s to step in and rescue the proposal for the redevelopment of the town centre is very welcome news. If we can make sure  Cherwell District Council and Sainsbury’s work together successfully it look as if we will finally have a new superstore, six screen cinema, new shops, cafes, restaurants,  new civic building, new bus interchange and car parking.
